First, release the timing cover assembly then, take out the oil pump cover fasten screws before you unbolt the cover. Bring up the pump gears from the pocket which is fashioned on the timing cover. Here are guidelines when assessing the oil pump inspection procedures : Before assembling the oil pump, transfer some petroleum jelly or heavy oil to the gear pocket, however, no chassis lubricant is allowed for it. I went on and fitted the gears in the cover pocket; making sure that the petroleum jelly fits into all the gaps of the gears and the pocket because if the gears are not completely coated properly, the pump will not prime and this would cause extreme damage to the engine. Put the cover gasket in place and fit the pump cover and tighten the bolts which anchors the cover to the specified pound force. Remove the small pin or sheet metal screw in the center of the plug followed by driving out the plug with the use of an electric drill or using a slide hammer or by simply using an ice pick as a means to pry out the plug. Remove the spring and the valve from the bore and make sure the valve bore and valve are free of any metal chips that might had got into the hole while drilling. Additional inspection procedures for relief valves are shown below: Coat the surface of the relief valve with some drops of engine oil and fit it in its respective bore, fix the spring in the bore. Insert into the bore a new plug with a soft -faced hammer rounding off the plug until it lies flat with the machined portion. Placed on one side the cor one then take off the clip fastening the long end of the intermediate shaft inwards and sliding the shaft away from the cover. In addition to this, before you slide the shaft into place you should first have measured a one inch line from one end of the shaft. Place the shaft in the position on the cover so that it fits into the oil pump drive gear, then insert the clip into the shaft so that the top edge of the open end of the clip lies flush with the mark; use the blade of a screwdriver to slip the top portion of the clip over the circumference of the shaft. Last but not the least mount up the timing cover assembly.
