How to properly service the oil pump on Ford Bronco? Posted by Customer
    A:
As with many of these tutorials, it may be necessary to remove the oil pump from the engine before you begin. It is unfastened by taking off two bolts which fixes the pick-up tube in place, then, the pick-up is removed. Solvent clean the oil pump and then blow dry the oil pump with air compressor. Subsequently, the oil pump housing cover should be taken off and the part is secured by four bolts. Although the oil pump has been removed from the housing, its interior is still needed to be cleaned, and the best way to do this is to immerse a brush and solvent into those areas shown in figure 6 and scrub out any dirt which may be stuck inside the pump housing and pressure relief valve chamber. On the inside of the pump housing, outer race and the rotor, check for signs of wear, scoring or other damages; on the pump cover, check for wear, grooves or other damages; where these are evident, replace the pump with a new one. Take a feeler gauge and measure the outer race-to-housing clearance and compare the findings with the specifications. Insert a straightedge and feeler gauge and check end plate-to-rotor assembly clearance and then look for conformity to specification. The driveshaft-to-housing bearing clearance shall be checked by measuring the inner diameter of the housing bearing and then subtracting it from the outer diameter of the driveshaft, and then comparing the two results with the specifications. It is not possible to service any of the components, so if some of them fail the check, then the whole oil pump must be changed. Check the relief valve spring for being worn or collapsed, and the relief valve piston for scoring, damage and free and smooth functioning in its bore; in case the relief valve fails any of the above test, then replace it completely with a new one. Place the rotor, outer outer housing and race in the oil pump, fill the cavities of the pump with petroleum jelly to enable the oil pump suction when the engine is running. Lastly the cover and the four nuts of the retaining bolts are to be tightened to the specified torque and the pick-up tube is to be fastened to the oil pump body by using a new gasket and tightening the nuts of the pick-up tube to the specified torque.

    Q:
How to remove and assemble the oil pump and its components in V6 engine on Ford Bronco? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, release the timing cover assembly then, take out the oil pump cover fasten screws before you unbolt the cover. Bring up the pump gears from the pocket which is fashioned on the timing cover. Here are guidelines when assessing the oil pump inspection procedures : Before assembling the oil pump, transfer some petroleum jelly or heavy oil to the gear pocket, however, no chassis lubricant is allowed for it. I went on and fitted the gears in the cover pocket; making sure that the petroleum jelly fits into all the gaps of the gears and the pocket because if the gears are not completely coated properly, the pump will not prime and this would cause extreme damage to the engine. Put the cover gasket in place and fit the pump cover and tighten the bolts which anchors the cover to the specified pound force. Remove the small pin or sheet metal screw in the center of the plug followed by driving out the plug with the use of an electric drill or using a slide hammer or by simply using an ice pick as a means to pry out the plug. Remove the spring and the valve from the bore and make sure the valve bore and valve are free of any metal chips that might had got into the hole while drilling. Additional inspection procedures for relief valves are shown below: Coat the surface of the relief valve with some drops of engine oil and fit it in its respective bore, fix the spring in the bore. Insert into the bore a new plug with a soft -faced hammer rounding off the plug until it lies flat with the machined portion. Placed on one side the cor one then take off the clip fastening the long end of the intermediate shaft inwards and sliding the shaft away from the cover. In addition to this, before you slide the shaft into place you should first have measured a one inch line from one end of the shaft. Place the shaft in the position on the cover so that it fits into the oil pump drive gear, then insert the clip into the shaft so that the top edge of the open end of the clip lies flush with the mark; use the blade of a screwdriver to slip the top portion of the clip over the circumference of the shaft. Last but not the least mount up the timing cover assembly.

    Q:
How to service oil pumps on Ford Bronco II? Posted by Customer
    A:
To service a gasoline engine, start by and disconnecting the oil pan assembly and to eliminate the oil pump, you should unbolt it. Introduce clean engine oil through the inlet or out let port of the oil pump and thereafter turn the pump shaft to distribute the oil. Replace the pump and fasten the mounting bolts to the prescribed torque setting for the various engine capacities Do not force the pump because if it does not fit well, there will be misalignment. Last but not the least; refit the oil pan, and as already pointed out the pumps cannot be rebuilt and must be replaced if found unserviceable. For 2.2L diesel engines a ground cable should be removed from the battery, the oil pan should be unbolted and the oil pump outlet tube should be disconnected. New tap then the pump outlet tube with teflon tape on the set screws, secured the pipe outlet with a new gasket and tighten the bolts where the old pump used to be. After raising the oil filler cap, add the right oil in the crankcase then turn off the cooling system and release pressure before connecting the battery. For 2.3L diesel engines, you need to start with the removal of battery cable and plethora of components like the cooling fan and timing belt covers among others. Subsequently to the removal of the oil pan bolts and the required parts, pull out the oil pump with its gears. When installing perform the following; ensure that the silent shaft and oil pump gears are synchronised, put on the front cover with new gasket and tighten all components to the recommended torque. Last but not the least, refit the oil pan, set the timing belts, and join the battery terminals, ensure for oil seepage after the running of the engine.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pump and oil pan in V8 engine on Ford F-250? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lift off the oil pan; then, undo the bolts, which hold the oil pump and support brace to the block, together with the nut of the brace and two bolts of the oil pick-up tube. Subsequently, you should uninstall the oil pump and the pick-up tube assembly and then clean the surfaces that are to come in contact with the pump and the block. Check the oil pump, and before fitting it, spin the pump shaft; fill the inlet of the pump with oil and oil will squirt out from the outlet when the shaft is rotated. Fit the oil pump securely to the engine block with the help of two bolts and tighten them to the recommended torque. Last, put in the oil pan before you proceed to the next step or the next process or phase of the particular job that you are working on.

    Q:
How to remove and install an oil pump on Lincoln Continental Overhead valve (OHV)engines? Posted by Customer
    A:
Unbolt and lower the oil pan. Remove the oil pick-up tube-to-main bearing cap nut. Remove the oil pump pick-up tube mounting bolts. Remove the oil pump mounting bolts and lower the oil pump assembly into the oil pan and lift them both out together. If the pump is faulty, or you suspect that it's faulty, install a new one - do not attempt to repair the original. As complete oil pumps, new or remanufactured, have become more inexpensive, reliable and readily available, service parts for oil pump overhaul/repair have become increasingly difficult and unnecessary to find. Prime the oil pump prior to installation. Pour clean oil into the pick-up and turn the pump shaft by hand. If you separated the pump from the pick-up tube, use a new gasket and tighten the bolts securely when reattaching them. As the pump is reinstalled, fit the oil pump driveshaft into the pump. It must seat all the way. DO NOT try to force it. If it doesn't align, turn the pump slightly and try again. Install the mounting bolts/nut and tighten them.

    Q:
How to remove and install an oil pump on Lincoln Mark VII Overhead cam(OHC) engine? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil pump is available as a complete replacement unit only. No service parts or repair specifications are available from the manufacturer. Unbolt and lower the oil pan. It's not necessary to completely remove the oil pan. Remove the two bolts that attach the oil pump pick-up tube to the oil pump. Remove the timing cover, timing chains, chain guides and crankshaft sprockets. Remove the four oil pump mounting bolts and separate the pump from the block. Prime the oil pump prior to installation. Pour clean oil into the pick-up port and turn the pump by hand. Inspect the 0-ring gasket on the pick-up tube, if damaged replace it. Install the oil pump to the engine and tighten the bolts to the torque. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal procedure. Fill the engine with the correct type and quantity of oil. Start the engine and check for leaks.

    Q:
How to service a oil pump on Mercury Capri? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil pump for the V6 engine is mounted externally on the timing chain cover. Begin by detaching the oil filter and removing the oil pump cover bolts. After detaching the cover and gasket, remove the gears from the cavity in the timing chain cover and discard the gasket. Clean and inspect the oil pump cavity; if the oil pump gear pocket is damaged or worn, replace the timing chain cover. Remove all traces of gasket material from the oil pump cover and check for warpage with a straightedge and feeler gauges; if warped more than 0.0016-inch, replace it. To remove the pressure relief valve, detach the timing chain cover from the engine, drill a hole in the plug, and pry it out or use a slide hammer and screw adapter. Remove the spring and valve from the bore, ensuring all metal chips are cleared and checking for wear, score marks, and galling; if the bore is worn or damaged, a new timing chain cover is necessary. The valve should fit without noticeable side play or binding, and if the spring appears fatigued or collapsed, replace it. Measure the spring tension against the specifications to assess its condition. Apply clean engine oil to the valve and install it in the bore, followed by the spring and a new plug, tapping it in until it is 0.010-inch below the machined surface of the cover. For the V8 engine, unbolt and lower the oil pan, then remove the oil pick-up tube-to-main bearing cap nut and the oil pump mounting bolts. Lower the oil pump assembly into the oil pan and lift them both out together; if the pump is faulty, install a new one instead of attempting repairs. Prime the oil pump before installation by pouring clean oil into the pickup and turning the pump shaft by hand. If separating the pump from the pickup tube, use a new gasket and securely tighten the bolts upon reattachment. Fit the oil pump driveshaft into the pump, ensuring it seats fully without forcing it; if misaligned, turn the pump slightly and try again. Finally, install the mounting bolts/nut and tighten them to the specified torque.
