The oil pump is available only as a complete replacement unit, with no service parts or repair specifications provided by the manufacturer. To remove the oil pump, first raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then drain the engine oil. Unbolt and lower the
Oil Pan without completely removing it, and detach the two bolts that connect the oil pump pick-up tube to the oil pump. Next, remove the
Timing Chain cover, timing chains, chain guides, and crankshaft sprockets. After that, take out the four oil pump mounting bolts and separate the pump from the engine block, noting that 2005 and later Expedition/Navigator 5.4L engines have three mounting bolts. For installation, inspect the O-ring gasket on the pick-up tube and replace it if damaged. Install the oil pump onto the engine and tighten the bolts to the specified torque, ensuring to prime the oil pump by pouring clean oil into the pick-up port and turning the pump by hand. Finally, complete the installation in reverse order, fill the engine with the appropriate type and quantity of oil, start the engine, and check for leaks.
