To remove and install the extension housing seal for various transmissions, crank the car, detach the negative battery terminal and jack up the car. Put a suitable drain pan under the extension housing and ensure that the surrounding area of the seal is cleaned. Put the mark on the driveshaft in line with the rear axle flange, then remove the two driveshaft bolts and pull the driveshaft back from the transmission. Remove the extension housing seal with an oil seal removal tool. For installation, a layer of gear lubricant should be applied at the lip of the new oil seal to be fitted into the extension housing using an installation tool with the proper orientation of the drain hole. Replace the driveshaft and position it correctly as it was done when being removed then fasten it with the attaching washer, lock washer and nuts. Examine the fluid level and top up with the correct type of fluid, lower the car and reconnect the battery terminal that has been removed negative terminal. The procedure remains the same for both Mitsubishi and M50D 5-speed transmissions with the following notes as follows The following tools should be used Schweitzer-LME 3L Gear oil 75W-90.

After replacing the oil seal, clean and lightly lubricate the yoke splines, then slip the slinger and yoke over the output shaft and past the new seal until it bottoms. Coat the face of the yoke retaining nut with RTV sealant and apply thread locking compound to ensure a secure fit. Tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specified torque settings to prevent leaks. Finally, recheck the area for any signs of oil seepage and ensure that all components are properly aligned before reassembling any remaining parts.

Slip them over the output shaft and carefully past the new seal until it bottoms.

Wire the driveshaft up and out of the way.

Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Caution: If the vehicle is equipped with Automatic Ride Control (ARC), make sure the air suspension switch is turned to the OFF position before the vehicle is raised to prevent damage to the system components.

To replace the fuel pump, follow these steps. Remove the fuel pump/sending unit assembly from the vehicle carefully. Install a new rubber gasket during reassembly. Adjust the angle and travel distance if the float arm and float wire loop were damaged during removal and installation.

Using a seal driver, large socket, or section of pipe, install a new oil seal and make sure it is completely seated in the counterbore.

Remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle.
