Loosen the nut on the negative battery terminal and remove the cable, then if needed for access remove the engine cover and remove the drivebelt. For four cylinder models, unbolt the remaining charge air cooler upper pipe, pull back the protective shield over the alternator's battery terminal, unfasten the nut and unreel the battery cable from the alternator and set it aside, then, disconnect the electrical connector. However, carry out the following steps: Take out the mounting bolts to the alternator, and compledely take out the unit from the car. For V6 models, now lift the front of the car and support it on jackstands-loosen the bolts and remove the right front splash shield to get to the alternator. Unplug the crank shaft position sensor and pull the harness clips off the shield, unscrew the alternator cover bolts and move it aside. Slide the protective cover back to the model's alternator battery terminal, unscrew the nut and then, disconnect the battery cable and the electrical connector from the alternator. The alternator mounting fasteners have to be unscrewed, and the mounting studs if possible before actual removal of the alternator from the car. For the 2008 and later models, if replacing the thermostat, disconnect the upper radiator hose support for 2012 and earlier models for 2013 and later models, remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly. Once again withdraw the protective cover of the battery terminal, unscrew the nut and detach the cable and the electrical connector of the alternator. First, eliminate the upper mounting nut and the lower mounting bolt of the alternator; then, the alternator can be pulled out in front of the engine towards the front of the vehicle. To replace the alternator, take the old one so that a new or a rebuilt one will match the unit in look, and electrical terminal connections, and identification numbers. Remember that new or redesigned alternators often arrive without a pulley, so you may have to use the one from the earlier model, and find out whether this procedure is provided for free by the store. Its the exact opposite of installation through the tightening of the mounting bolts of the alternator and connecting of the cable on the negative terminal of the battery and also checking the charging voltage to confirm the effectiveness of the alternator.
