Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the underbody cover as necessary. For four-cylinder models, reposition the coolant hoses as needed to remove the starter. Disconnect the starter motor solenoid wire nut and the starter motor battery cable nut, then disconnect both wires from the starter. Remove the nut securing the ground wire to the starter mounting stud and disconnect the ground wire. Remove the mounting stud bolts and take out the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the starter mounting stud-bolts are tightened securely. For V6 models, remove the air filter housing, and if necessary, remove the battery and 
Battery Tray. On 2006 and earlier 6-speed models, remove the transaxle torque arm assembly mounting bolts and the torque arm. For all except 2006 and earlier 6-speed models, disconnect the transaxle shift cable, then remove the manual shift lever nut and lever from the transaxle. For all models, remove the starter motor solenoid wire nut and the starter motor battery cable nut, then disconnect the wire and cable from the starter motor. Remove the starter motor mounting fasteners and take out the starter motor. Installation is the reverse of removal.
