Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Next, disconnect the wiring from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid by removing the protective cover from the B+ terminal, taking off the nut to disconnect the battery cable from the B+ terminal, and removing the other nut to disconnect the starter cable from the S terminal. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts to detach the starter motor from the engine; the starter on V6 engines is held by two bolts, while the starter on VB engines is secured by three bolts. For 3.7L V6 models with automatic transmissions, remove the automatic transmission cooler line bracket mounting nut and move the bracket back out of the way. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the starter mounting bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
