    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
How to remove and install a starter motor on a Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. On 2004 and later models, unbolt the frame-vibration damper, which looks like a small dumbbell, for starter access. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the starter solenoid cover if equipped. Disconnect the large cable from the terminal on the starter and the solenoid terminal connections. Remove the starter mounting bolt and nut, remove the electrical connectors, the upper mounting bolt and the lower mounting nut, then detach the starter from the transmission bellhousing and detach the starter from the engine. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How do you install the Starter motor for the 2004 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer

Install the starter motor in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the starter bolts to the specified torque.

    Q:
What items should be checked in the starting circuit before assuming the Starter is the problem for the 2004 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before assuming the starter is the problem, the following items should be checked in the starting circuit. Ensure that the battery cable clamps are clean and tightly connected to the battery. Inspect the condition of the battery cables and replace any damaged ones. Test the battery to determine if it needs to be replaced. Check the tightness of the starter mounting bolts. Verify the adjustment of the Digital Transmission Range sensor or Clutch Pedal Position switch and ensure that the shift lever is in the correct position. Check the operation of the starter relay, which is located in the engine compartment fuse and relay box on later models.

    Q:
