- Q:How to remove and install the oil pump in 4.0L SOHC V6 engine on 2000 Ford Ranger?Posted by Ximena C.A:The two sections are the lower and the upper oil pan sections and to have access to them the engine has to be pulled out of the car. Subsequently, the oil pump bolts need to be undone for the removal of the pump from the engine next the oil pump intermediate driveshaft needs to be pulled out from the engine. During installation the one of the pump ports needs to be filled with clean engine oil and the pump needs to be manually rotated to charge it. The intermediate drive shaft should then be slid into the engine, with the pointed end facing inwards and should be such that engages the oil pump drive and ensures the travel limit clip is fitted nearer the camshaft position sensor end on an area not machined on the driveshaft. Oil pump; it should be fitted on the block with a new gasket such that it meshes with the driveshaft then the oil pump bolts should be tightened to the recommended torque. It should be noted that other steps for installation are the same as for the program's removal-just the opposite way. After installation oil pressure ought to rise to normal quickly; if it does not do so the engine ought to be stopped, as any engine left without sufficient pressure can cause much damage.Answered by Ford Parts Specialist Don / Dec 31, 2025
