- Q: How to remove and install the oil pump in 4.0L SOHC V6 engine on 2000 Ford Ranger?A: The two sections are the lower and the upper oil pan sections and to have access to them the engine has to be pulled out of the car. Subsequently, the oil pump bolts need to be undone for the removal of the pump from the engine next the oil pump intermediate driveshaft needs to be pulled out from the engine. During installation the one of the pump ports needs to be filled with clean engine oil and the pump needs to be manually rotated to charge it. The intermediate drive shaft should then be slid into the engine, with the pointed end facing inwards and should be such that engages the oil pump drive and ensures the travel limit clip is fitted nearer the camshaft position sensor end on an area not machined on the driveshaft.
