1999 Ford Ranger Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the oil pump in DOHC four cylinder engine on 1999 Ford Ranger?
A: To get access to the oil pump on this engine, removing the engine is necessary and the oil pump is a closed unit which has no subassembly or internal examination. Star with the torning chain after the engine has been pulled out. After that, remove the oil pan and the oil pick-up mounting bolts to separate the pick-up tube which is held in place by two bolts only. Move to take off the chain tensioner mounting bolt together with the tensioner while being keen to note the position of the spring as the tensioner is fixed with one bolt while the guide is fixed with two bolts only. After that, undo the two mounts bolts for the chain guide and then you can now remove the guide. With suitable tool, one is required to hold the oil pump drive sprocket then back off the sprocket bolt and finally withdraw the sprocket. Move the oil pump drive sprocket and the timing chain sprocket and the chain from the foremost position of the crankshaft carefully so as to set back the special washers to their rightful position so as to ensure the correct timing of the engine is maintained to avoid further strain. In this step remove the bolts that hold the oil pump in place then take out the pump. In case of installation, reverse all those mentioned steps of removal while making sure that all gaskets should be replaced, oil pump securing bolts tightened in a criss-cross pattern with recommended torque setting, oil compartment filled with oil, and the cooling system with the correct mixture of water-anti freeze and lastly, check for oil warning light on the instrument panel once the vehicle is started and let it to run for several minutes.
