    A: The complete oil pan assembly consists of a lower sheet metal oil pan and an upper aluminum casting that reinforces the crankcase tower. The lower oil pan and oil pump pick-up/screen can be removed while the engine is still in the vehicle, but the reinforcement section requires engine removal for access to the oil pump and crankshaft. Begin by removing the engine from the vehicle, followed by the lower oil pan fasteners and the sheet metal oil pan. Next, take off the bolts and the oil pump screen cover and tube, then remove the eight center bolts of the reinforcement section, followed by the rear and outside bolts. Carefully detach the reinforcement section from the block, avoiding prying on any gasket sealing surface. For installation, clean all old gasket material from the engine block, reinforcement section, and oil pan, ensuring no residue remains. Adjust the threaded inserts in the reinforcement section to avoid contact with the main cap bolt heads during installation. Apply RTV sealant to specified areas on the rear main cap and front cover, then position the new gaskets and install the reinforcement section. Install the side rail bolts without tightening, then measure the clearance between the transmission mounting surface and the reinforcement section, ensuring it does not exceed 0.010-inch. Tighten all perimeter bolts and the reinforcement section threaded inserts to the specified torque, then install the interior reinforcement section bolts with new seals on the front bolts, tightening them in sequence.
