    Q:
How to remove and install a vibration damper on the crankshaft pulley of a Lincoln Town Car Overhead cam (OHC) engine? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the bolts attaching the fan shroud to the radiator and position the shroud back over the fan. Remove the fan/clutch assembly and the shroud. Remove the accessory drivebelt. Remove the bolt from the front of the crankshaft, and using a suitable puller, detach the vibration damper. After the bolt has been removed, use a puller that bolts to the damper to remove the damper from the end of the crankshaft. Leave the Woodruff key in place in the crankshaft keyway. Caution: Don't use a puller with jaws that grip the outer edge of the damper. The puller must be the type shown in the illustration that utilizes bolts to apply force to the damper hub only.Installation: Lubricate the oil seal contact surface of the vibration damper hub with moly-base grease or clean engine oil. Apply a silicone based sealer to the crankshaft keyway before installing the damper. Install the damper on the end of the crankshaft. The keyway in the damper must be aligned with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft nose. If the damper cannot be seated by hand, slip the large washer over the bolt, install the bolt and tighten it to pull the damper into place. Tighten the bolt to the torque. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of removal. Check the oil level. Run the engine and check for oil leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and install Crankshaft Pulley in 4.6L V8 engine on Mercury Grand Marquis? Posted by Customer
    A:
To unmount the fan shroud, unscrew the bolts which fixed it to the radiator and put the shroud back between the fan and the radiator. Secondly strip off the fan/clutch assembly as well as the shroud of the fan. In a first stage, remove the belt of the accessory drive, then unscrew the bolt on the crankshaft front side and, after inserting a suitable puller in the crankshaft front side, remove the vibration damper while keeping the Woodruff key in the crankshaft keyway. The use of a puller that only applies force on the damper hub is recommended and any that clamp the outer periphery should be avoided. For installation, use the moly-base grease or clean engine oil on the oil seal contact surface of the vibration damper hub , and also put the silicone-based sealer at the crankshaft key way before fixing the damper into place at the crankshaft such that the keyway fits the Woodruff key. If required, clamp the damper into position with a large washer and bolt and tighten the bolt to the required torque. The subsequent steps of installation are the inverse of the removal process described above. Last, always look at the engine oil mileage, start the engine, and take a look at the dipstick and for signs of any leaks.

    Q:
How should the vibration damper be installed for the 1985 Lincoln Mark VII? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lubricate the oil seal contact surface of the vibration damper hub with multi-purpose grease or clean engine oil, then install the damper on the end of the crankshaft. The keyway in the damper must be aligned with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft nose. If the damper cannot be seated by hand, slip the large washer over the bolt, install the bolt and tighten it to pull the damper into place. An alternative method that can be used is to use a soft face/dead blow hammer or a wood block and a steel hammer to drive the damper into place.
