To prepare the vehicle for transmission removal, follow these steps:1. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the back-up light switch.4. Remove the speedometer cable and gear assembly on 1991 and earlier 2WD models.5. Disconnect the clutch hydraulic line from the slave cylinder on vehicles with a concentric slave cylinder or remove the external slave cylinder from the transmission housing on 5-speed models equipped with a 7.5L engine.6. Disconnect the driveshaft on 2WD models or remove the transfer case shift lever assembly and transfer case on 4WD vehicles.7. Remove the starter motor from the transmission on 5-speed models.
