Maintenance for prevention requires frequent oil changes. Collect rags and tools in the event of spillage. While cars are on ramps, filters and drain plugs can be reached. Begin the engine up, let it warm up fully, then park it on a level surface. Lift the car with stands and put the pan below the plug. Remove the oil, check for metallic particles, and clean up its plug as well as opening filter surfaces. Fit a new filter lubricating its gasket then filling it with new oil. Check the dipstick level and watch out for any drips. You may have to drop off used oil at a reclamation center or recycling facility.
