    Installation and Repair Tips
    Q:
What should you do if the Starter is receiving voltage but does not activate for the 2006 Ford Escape? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove and check the starter/solenoid assembly on the bench. The solenoid is likely defective. In rare cases, the engine may be seized, so try to rotate the crankshaft pulley before proceeding. With the starter/solenoid assembly mounted in a vise, connect jumper cables from the battery to the starter and apply battery voltage to the solenoid S terminal for 10 seconds or less. Observe the solenoid plunger, shill lever, and overrunning clutch. If the pinion drive extends but does not rotate, the starter motor is defective. If there is no movement but the solenoid clicks, either the solenoid or the starter motor is defective. If the solenoid plunger extends and rotates the pinion drive, the starter/solenoid assembly is functioning properly.

    Q:
What should be done regarding the Starter on the 2006 Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
    A:
Unbolt and set aside the power steering pump without disconnecting the lines. Remove the oil pressure sending unit and seal the opening.

    Q:
What should be done if the Starter motor is suspected to be faulty for the 2006 Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
    A:
It should be removed from the vehicle and taken to an auto-electrician for testing.

    Q:
What precautions should be taken during testing the Starter for the 2006 Mercury Mariner? Posted by Customer
    A:
The battery cables might overheat due to the large amount of current being drawn from the battery. Discontinue testing until the starting system has cooled down. If the starter motor cranking amp values are not within the correct range, replace it with a new unit. Ensure the battery is in good condition, the cold-cranking rating is adequate, and that the battery terminals and cables are clean and not corroded. In extreme cold temperatures, warm the battery or engine block before performing tests.
