For Independent Front Suspension (IFS) models, begin by loosening the wheel lug nuts, raising the front of the vehicle, placing it on jackstands, and removing the wheel. Next, take off the front wheel hub(s) and spindle assembly(s). If the left side seal or bearing needs replacement, remove the left axleshaft only. For the right side stub axle seal or bearing replacement, first remove both axleshafts. If the stub axle is an early externally retained type, remove it; if it is a later internally retained type, remove the axle carrier and the right side stub axle assembly from the axle carrier. Early externally retained stub axle assemblies must be taken to a repair facility to remove the pressed-on bearing retainer ring, replace the bearing and seal, and press a new bearing retainer ring back on the shaft. All other seals and bearings can be removed directly from the housing using a slide hammer with a collet-type adapter. Install a new bearing into the carrier bore with the part number facing out, driving it squarely into the housing until it bottoms using an appropriate bearing driver. Ensure the seal surface is clean and free of nicks and burrs, coat the outer mating surface of the seal with RTV sealant, and the inner lip with multi-purpose grease. Place the seal squarely into the carrier bore and drive it into the housing until it bottoms using a suitable seal driver. Install the stub axle and carrier if applicable, followed by the required axleshaft(s). Then, install the front wheel spindle and hub assemblies, followed by the calipers and wheels. Fill the axle with the recommended lubricant and check for leaks. Finally, remove the jackstands, lower the vehicle, and test drive to check for proper operation. For the F350 (4WD) Monobeam, the axleshaft seals are located in the differential case, requiring removal of the differential/ring gear assembly, a process that necessitates tools and techniques best left to a professional repair facility or dealer service department.

Remove the axleshaft as previously described. Use a seal removal tool to pry out the old oil seal from the axle housing. Use a seal driver or large socket to position the new seal, ensuring the lips face inwards and the metal face is visible. The seal should be flush with the axle housing end when correctly installed. Lubricate the seal lips with gear oil before reinstalling the axleshaft.

The final steps involve reinstalling the cover and bolts, applying a continuous bead of silicone sealant, and tightening the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. It is crucial to refill the axle with the correct lubricant to ensure proper functioning and longevity of the rear axle components.

Inspect the inner surface of the housing for any conditions that would prevent the new seal or bearing from fitting into its seat correctly. Remedy any problems of this type such as burrs, galling, or rust before attempting to install the new bearing or seal.

Position the inner bearing in the inner cup and install a new grease seal using an appropriate seal driver.
