Remove the door trim panel and water shield, then the window glass for A1 and later car models, disconnecting the electrical connector from the window motor on power window models. Use the correct size drill bit to remove the center of the rivets holding the equalizer bracket as the bar is held by two nuts rather than rivets for these models. Carefully drill out/remove the rivets holding the regulator base plate to the inner door panel, as well as one nut. Then take out the regulator and the glass holder. When the regulator guides need to be changed, flatten the retaining tab in the end of the channel, take off the arm slides, fit new guides, and bend the tab back to secure them in place. Ensure that the rubber bumper is properly positioned if applying a new bracket. Be careful not to dislodge the regulator counterbalance spring unless the regulator arms are secured to prevent unraveling forcefully. Usually, you'll install the regulator and glass bracket in the door, using the base plate locator tab for positioning. Bolting the regulator to the inner door panel with rivets or 1/4-20 x 1-inch bolts, nuts and washers or equivalent metric should be sufficient. Follow the inverse steps of the removal of the parts to complete the installation.
