To remove the pump locate a cable connected to the negative terminal of the battery, then loosen it. Then do the air cleaner assembly, the Thermactor air pump, the driveshaft, the drive belt, and the power steering pump reservoir plus filler extension allowing the dipstick opening to be plugged to prevent dirt get in. Models with a remote reservoir require the removal of the reservoir supply hose from the pump and the draining of the fluid with the pump opened to be capped to avoid any contamination. On the underside of the vehicle, remove the pump adjusting bolt and one mounting bracket bolt, and the return hose from the pump; vehicles made from 1986 to 1990 have quick disconnect fittings. In the engine compartment, remove the drive belt and the two remaining mounting bolts as well as one adjusting bolt and the pivot bolt. Last, remove the pump and pulley with the help of the mounting bracket and remove the high pressure line which has to be lowered into a suitable receptacle. For installation, first fix the bracket on the surface and then on it place the pump and fix it with the help of the mounting bolts. Under the vehicle attach the pressure hose, fit the drive belt and set tension of the same. Fit the return hose to the pump and the filler extension for the pump reservoir as well. Thermactor air pump, drive belt, and air cleaner assembly-reinstall, the reservoir supply hose to the pump if it is a remote reservoir model. Place the identified fluid into the pump reservoir and then depressurise the system.
