    After removal, reassemble the connecting rod caps and bearing inserts in their respective connecting rods and install the cap nuts finger tight. This helps prevent the connecting rod bearing surfaces from being accidentally nicked or gouged.

    Make sure the bearing faces are perfectly clean, then apply a uniform layer of clean moly-base grease or engine assembly lube to both of them. Push the piston into the cylinder to expose the face of the bearing insert in the connecting rod, and slip the protective hoses over the rod bolts first (5.0 engines only).
