    Q:
What are fuses and how do they protect electrical circuits on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle have protection by fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links with the main fuse and relay panel installed in the engine room and the interior fuse and relay panel in the cabin. There is small, medium and large fuses used in the fuse blocks and they all have the blade terminal type; the medium and large fuses can be easily withdrawn by hand, but the small fuses require removal by pliers or a plastic fuse-puller. In such a situation, basically what one has to do is to check the fuse and this can be done a long with using a test light whether or not the terminal tips have power, if one knows that the fuse is blown then the element can be easily seen to have melted. If you decide to replace a burnt fuse it is always important to ensure that you replace it with a fuse of the same rating because even if a particular fuse will physically fit into the place of another one it is not advisable to do so because every circuit should be protected by a particular type of fuse. If a replacement fuse has blown almost instantly then the root cause is normally a short circuit because of faulty wiring and this should be sorted before any new fuses are fitted. Furthermore, some circuits are protected by fusible links which is employed in high current applications and which deforms under excessive current; when replacing a problematic fusible link it has to be replaced by another one from the same specification and the circuit has to be checked in case the new link is also problematic.

    Q:
What are the important considerations for handling fuses and relays's electrical system on Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is necessary to switch off the ignition switch and the corresponding electrical circuit if one wishes to remove any fuses or relays and the battery ground lead must be disconnected if anything electrical must be disconnected. Switches are made to break a circuit when a given current value is reached in order to avoid damaging a circuit in question, various components, and wiring due to excess current, usually as a result of a fault such as short circuit. The main central fuse box, which also contains some relays, is situated inside the car at the left end of the instrument panel beneath and to the left of the steering column and is marked by a removable cover. There is a combined timer relay at the rear of the primary fuse-box which operates the heated rear window, rear luminaries, and arranged wiper operation; it also triggers an alarm bleep in case the lights are left ignited or an automatic transmission car is poorly parked. The auxiliary fuse box is located on the right hand side of the firewall in the engine compartment behind the air cleaner which one has to open to access and there are few relays too. The circuits are numbered on the main fusebox: and on the inner lid of the auxiliary fusebox there are writings and wiring diagrams showing the circuits covered by the corresponding fuse. To check the fuses you must use a test light, if the light begins to glow from the exposed terminal ends, that fuse is bad, in addition the element between the terminals gives it away. Never use a higher capacity fuse or a piece of wire to patch up a fuse; this can cause significant harm or fire; it's printed on the top of a fuse. This is in addition to a 'battery saver' relay for the central fusebox in the event that the car is to be off the road for a long time. Some of the parts such as relays might be electrically operated switches used in certain circuits; these can be removed by simply pulling them from their sockets and some are fitted with a plastic bar which makes them easier to pull using the tweezers. When a relay-controlled component becomes a problem, listen closely when the circuit is turned on; if the relay makes a clicking sound, the relay is okay; the problem is elsewhere. If the relay does not energize, it may be because the relay is not getting switching voltage or is dead and the testing can be done by swapping the suspected relay with a known good relay, though different relays looking alike may do different things.

    Q:
How are electrical circuits protected and what should you know about fuses and their replacement on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits are protected by fuses and fusible links as well as circuit breakers; the two fuse panels are situated in the power distribution box in the engine compartment and above the driver's footwell. These panels employ simple to remove and replace fingertip fuses manufactured for use in mini circuits. One protects one or more circuits, and while there is a fuse guide, the best information is found in owner manuals. The ''footwell fuse panel cover'' has additional fuses and a ''fuse puller'' is fixed on the fuse box. When an electrical component is faulty, the fuse must be checked; testing for a power supply at the tips of the exposed fuses should be done with a test light. Where one side has power and the other does not, or by simply observing a melted link between the terminals or lack of a link all together because the fuse has been 'blown'. Each offered fuse puller tool should not be used with twisting movements to the fuses during both removal and installation processes as this also damages the connection. Larger blown fuses must be replaced with correct type and size of fuse as each circuit ought to be protected by the right fuse; fuses of different sizes may fit physically, but it is unwise to use a fuse with a higher or lower rating than required. The amperage value is printed directly in the fuse body and various types of fuses are of different colors. You are warned to always switch off the circuits and the ignition where the fuse is to be replaced, otherwise death or fire may be caused; and if you bypass a fuse with metal or foil, the hazard is immediately death or fire. If a replacement fuse was blown as soon as possible then it should not be replaced again before the root cause is normally a short circuit caused by a broken or deteriorated wire is first identified and tackled.

    Q:
How Do Fuses, Circuit Breakers, and Fusible Links Protect the Electrical Circuits of a Mercury Mariner? Posted by Customer
    A:
The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links. Fuse blocks are located under the instrument panel and in the engine compartment. The fuse/relay box, mounted on the left side of the engine compartment, contains diodes, fuses, and relays, all listed by location and function on the underside of its cover. To open the fuse panel cover, pull from the left kick panel in early models or the right side of the console in later models, then disengage the two cover locator tabs. Miniaturized fuses with blade terminal design allow for easy fingertip removal and replacement. If an electrical component fails, always check the fuse first using a test light to check for power at the terminal tips; a lack of power on one side indicates a blown fuse, which can also be visually confirmed. Replace blown fuses with the correct type, matching the amperage value molded into the fuse body; using a fuse with an incorrect rating can cause damage. If a replacement fuse immediately fails, isolate and correct the underlying issue, typically a short circuit, before replacing the fuse again. Some circuits also utilize fusible links, which are found in the engine compartment fuse/relay box and are used for circuits carrying high current or those not ordinarily fused. Fusible links, which look similar to large fuses, can be unplugged or unbolted and replaced with one of the same amperage after disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal.

    Q:
How can you check if a fuse is blown for the 2010 Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
The best way to check a fuse is with a test light. Check for power at the exposed terminal tips of each fuse. If power is present on one side of the fuse but not the other, the fuse is blown. A blown fuse can also be confirmed by visually inspecting it; when a fuse blows, the element between the terminals melts.
