    Q:
How to remove and install camshafts in four cylinder engine on Ford Escape? Posted by Customer
    A:
When working on the timing belt or chain, the camshaft sprockets need to be detached; before doing this ensure that they are labeled for reassembly purposes. The camshaft bearing caps are each numbered using a single digit, while those for the exhaust are labeled from 0 to 4, and those for the intake side, from 5 to 9; when reinstalling the caps, the visible side has the number. Turn the camshaft bearing cap bolts in a turning pattern of half a turn to free pressure on the valve springs. Slide out the caps, remembering the marks and dowels, next extract the camshafts and oil seals and the intake camshaft, which has a reference lobe on it. Label the contents of sixteen small containers so that cam followers' bearings remain with shims, not to aggravate wear. Inspect both camshafts vertically as well as horizontally, and the cam followers as well, to look for any overt tapering or ovality, coupled with the normal wear and tear signs and signs of overheating. Take the diameter of each journal and inspect running clearance with Plastigage; if any bearing is worn beyond this, change the camshaft or the cylinder head if required. On installation, rotate the engine back from TDC to avoid valve knocking, apply oil to the cam follower bores and to the cam followers, and correct orientation must be done during instalment. New camshaft oil seals are to be placed and the bearings are lubricated before reversing the position of the camshafts while the bearing caps are to be sealed. Tighten the caps in sequence, putting them straight to the cylinder head, and cleaning unwanted sealant off. Before the final assembly, check brittle valve clearances by rotating the crankshaft to TDC and installer the timing pin. Replace camshaft sprockets loosely, continue the reassembly in the same way using the timing belt or chain and setting the valve clearances. Once the battery connection is re-established, let the Powertrain Control Module perform its idle and fuel trim procedure as it will work most effectively.

    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install the camshaft and Rocker Arm in 2.0L SPI engine on Ford Focus? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then remove the air cleaner intake duct and the valve cover. Next, take off the drivebelt, followed by the flange bolts, fulcrums, rocker arms, lifter guide retainer, lifter guides, and lifters, ensuring to keep the components in their original sequence by marking them or using a suitable container. Mark each lifter to indicate the front-facing end for proper reinstallation. Remove the ignition coil pack and the timing belt, then lock the camshaft pulley with a rod or large screwdriver to unscrew and remove the sprocket. Pull out the camshaft thrust plate, remove the cup plug from the transaxle end of the cylinder head, and carefully withdraw the camshaft. Inspect each lifter for wear and replace any that are worn. Check the camshaft for wear, particularly on the lobes, and replace it if there are any issues. Measure the camshaft bearing journals and cam lobe heights, comparing them to specifications, and replace the camshaft if necessary. Inspect the rocker arms for wear and replace them as pairs if needed. For installation, lubricate the camshaft bearings and lobes with engine assembly lube before inserting the camshaft, rotating it carefully to avoid damage. Install a new oil seal after the camshaft, apply thread locking compound to the pulley bolt threads, and reinstall the pulley, tightening it to the specified torque. Adjust the timing belt, lubricate the hydraulic lifters with engine oil before inserting them, and position them correctly. Finally, install the guides, retainers, rocker arms, and fulcrums in their original positions, tightening the bolts to the specified torque, and check the collapsed tappet clearance if any components are replaced.

    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and install the camshaft in 3.0L V6 engine on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove intake manifold start with the removal of the valve covers then proceed to go around the head and loosen the rocker arm bolts before swinging the rocker arms to the side. In case they are to be reused, some pushrods should be withdrawn from the engine and put in a place in a manner that they will not be mixed with others by using the pushrod holder. Subsequently, it is possible to pull valve lifters from the engine and to unscrew the timing chain cover. Unthread the camshaft sprocket assemble in such a manner that the engine is not rotated when this is being done. Go on to take off timing chain and sprockets and the bolts that hold the camshaft thrust plate to the engine block. Gently pull out the camshaft out of the engine ensure that the cam lobes do not damage the bearings. For the operations for the camshaft and lifters as for an inspection procedure, the following specific shall be followed. For installation, it is recommended that the camshaft journals be oiled whereas the cam lobes be lubricated with engine assembly lube when slotting it into position though being careful not to damage the bearings. The camshaft thrust plate should be bolted and tightened to the necessary tension, and the timing chain, as well as both sprockets, should then be fitted. In case of utilizing original hydraulic valve lifters, those must be as fitted in the original cylinder, and must be treated with engine assembly lube. Reverse all the removal steps as part of the final steps and if the system has a camshaft position sensor then it should be installed.

    Q:
How to inspect and replace camshaft and bearings in SOHC four cylinder engine on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
When the camshaft has been pulled out of the engine, it must be washed in a solvent and dried, then an examination of bearing journals must be made for uneven wearing, pits and galling and if this is so, both the camshaft and bearings are going to have to be replaced. Take ID of each camshaft bearing by taking two measurements at right angle to each other and simultaneously use micrometer to measured camshaft bearing journals if any sign of wear or out of roundness greater than 0.005 inches, replace the camshaft. Determine oil clearance by subtracting the bearing journal diameters by the respective bearing inside diameter measurements and where necessary replace the bearings. Camshaft bearings being small can be replaced only by the help of special tools which if not handled well will lead to more destruction to the head, thus it is recommended to have such worked on by automotive machine shops. Examine the camshaft lobes for such signs as heat checking, scoring, chipped areas, pits and general wear; if viewable without removal, the camshaft may be reused. See that the oil passages of the camshaft are good and free of obstruction and debris. To determine the wear state of the thrust plate, orient the camshaft in the cylinder head, place the thrust plate at the rear, and use the dial indicator to measure the total endplay; if the figure is above the limit, replace the thrust plate. Tighten the wear plate at the appropriate threads on the face or rollers of the cam followers for pitting, score marks and wear, make sure that functions snugly on the lash adjuster. Check the face which bears onto the vale stem; if it is pitted then it shows that the cam follower must be replaced. If it is seen that more than two cam followers are worn out, this can be rooted into a lubrication system problem where in the camshaft and all cam followers need to be replaced. Also, during any operation that may involve pulling out the cam follower, check the lash adjusters for signs of damage or tear.
