This procedure is only for halogen bulbs; for the LED headlights the housing has to be replaced with the assembly. Before replacing halogen headlights first the cable that is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. Third, pull out the bulb access cover starting from a horizontal rotation then pulling it up. Pull out the electrical connector, twist the bulb anti-clockwise and gently remove it from the housing. Removal is the exact opposite of installation. Bear in mind that some models of vehicles employ High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights and that instead of regular halogen bulbs, these vehicles make use of the HID bulbs. The high voltages produced by this system can be lethal in case of short and voltage can exist in the circuit even when the headlight switch is turned off and keys removed from the ignition. Because of safety concerns, it is suggested for this service to be done professionally either in a dealer service department or in other reputable repair shop.

Remove the headlight housing. Rotate the headlight bulb retaining ring counterclockwise and pull out the bulb socket; to remove the headlight bulb from the housing, turn it counterclockwise and pull it out. For 2011 and later models, twist the headlight bulb a small amount counterclockwise to remove it, and similarly remove the park/turn bulb and the side marker light. Installation is the reverse of removal.

To remove the bulbs that are present in the front parking light and turn signal, customers have to unbolt the headlight housing and disconnect the electrical connectors and with the help of counter clockwise motion, the bulb holder can be removed. Take out the old bulb by simply pulling it up and in to replace it put in the new one and push it all the way down till you can't anymore. For the front side marker light bulbs, the same process applies as with the processes outlined above to get to the bulb holder, turn it anti-clockwise to remove it and install a new bulb in the same way. Replacing fog light bulbs that are found in the lower part of the bumper cover does not require lifting the vehicle; the bulb socket can be loosened by turning it anticlockwise until it can be disconnected electricity connection, then a new bulb can be installed by reconnecting the electricity connection and then fixing the socket in place by turning it in a clockwise direction. As to the high-mount brake light bulbs: unscrew the retaining screws, and pull out the assembly; then, to replace a burnt-out bulb, turn the socket in a counter clockwise direction to remove it, take out the old bulb, and install a new one. To replace brake, taillight, turn signal and back-up light bulbs, remove the screws holding the taillight assembly and pull it straight out, pull the connectors apart and turn the sockets anti-clockwise to remove the bulbs, pull out the bulbs and insert new ones in their place. License plate light bulbs involve dismantling the assembly from the bumper; then you have to unplug the electrical connector before changing the bulb in the socket. Interior light bulbs can be replaced by unscrewing the instrument cluster and the protective cover whereby the bulb sockets for the illumination bulbs must be rotated anti-clockwise. Map reading light bulbs are located in the map reading light assembly and can be replaced by removing the trim piece and replacing the bulbs directly while the dome light bulbs can be replaced by prying off the lens of the dome light and making sure that the new bulb fits into the right place in the clips provided.

To access the right parking light bulb on 2006 through 2009 models, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, then remove the bulb access cover screw and the cover. For the left parking light bulb on 2010 through 2012 Milan and 3.5L Fusion models, remove the air filter housing and the filter housing air inlet duct. To access the right parking light bulb on 2010 through 2012 Milan and Fusion models, remove the four pin-type retainers and push the fender splash shield aside. On 2013 and later models, the headlight housing must be removed to access the bulbs. Turn the bulb holder counterclockwise and remove it from the headlight housing without disconnecting the electrical connector. To remove the bulb, pull it straight out of the holder, and installation is the reverse of removal. For front sidemarker light bulbs on 2006 through 2009 models, raise the vehicle, then remove the bulb access cover screw and cover in the fender splash shield. The horizontal sidemarker housing is secured to the bumper cover by two tabs; squeeze these tabs together, then rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it out. On 2010 and later models, the vertical sidemarker housing is secured by a tab and a locator pin; remove the nut, disengage the locator pin and tab to remove the sidemarker housing. Rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise 1/4-turn and pull it out of the housing without disconnecting the electrical connector. To remove the bulb, pull it straight out of the bulb holder, and installation is the reverse of removal. For fog light bulbs, raise the front of the vehicle and remove the four fasteners to pull back the inner fender splash shield below the fog lamp. Disconnect the fog light bulb electrical connector, then rotate the bulb counterclockwise and pull it out of the fog lamp housing. To install the new fog light bulb, insert it into the fog light housing and turn it clockwise to lock it into place, with installation otherwise being the reverse of removal. Puddle lights, located in the outside mirrors, require angling the mirror glass down, pulling it out to disengage the locking tabs, and if heated, disconnecting the electrical connector. Release the puddle light housing tab and remove it, then rotate the puddle light bulb socket to release it from the housing. Remove the bulb from its socket and install a new bulb, then insert the socket into the housing and rotate it until it clicks into place. Install the puddle light housing in the mirror, ensuring it snaps into place, and reconnect the electrical connector if heated. For the center high-mounted brake light bulb on 2006 through 2009 models, disconnect the electrical connector from inside the luggage compartment, rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise, and pull it out. To replace the bulb, pull it straight out of the bulb holder, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2010 and later models, disconnect the electrical connector, push the high-mounted brake light housing to disengage the front mounting tabs, lift it to disengage the rear tabs, and remove it. No further disassembly is possible as the LEDs are integral to the housing. For spoiler-mounted high-mounted brake lights on 2010 and later models, remove the rubber access covers, screws, pull down the housing, and disconnect the electrical connector. For trunk lid-mounted high-mounted brake lights on 2010 and later models, remove the trim panel and mounting nuts, disconnect the electrical connectors, and release the tabs to remove the high-mounted brake light. For roof-mounted high-mounted brake lights on 2013 and later models, carefully remove the trim around the rear window, pull down the headliner, and remove the mounting nuts to take out the high-mounted brake light. For taillight bulbs, fold back the trunk floor carpeting, reposition the flexible trunk side trim panel, rotate the taillight bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it, and pull the bulb straight out. For license plate light bulbs, remove the lens screws and bulb, then install the new bulb in reverse order. For interior front or rear overhead light bulbs, carefully pry off the overhead lens, pull the bulb straight out of its socket, and installation is the reverse of removal.

When replacing a bulb, switch off all exterior lights and be cautious of hot bulbs. Check the bulb contacts and holder for clean metal-to-metal contact, cleaning off any corrosion or dirt before installation. Ensure bayonet-type bulbs have firm contact against the terminals and that new bulbs are of the correct rating and clean, especially for headlights and fog lights. Avoid touching halogen bulb glass with fingers to prevent overheating; if touched, clean with rubbing alcohol. For 2007 and earlier models, release the clip at the rear of the headlight unit to access the bulb, disconnect the wiring plug, and remove the bulb by releasing the wire clip. For 2008 and later models, if working on the left bulb of a non-PZEV vehicle, remove the air cleaner; for the right-side bulb, unbolt the coolant expansion tank. Disconnect the wiring, turn the bulb counterclockwise, and remove it. Installation of the new bulb follows the reverse procedure, and headlight beam alignment should be checked. The park light bulb is also accessed similarly. For front sidelights, access may vary by model, with some located in the front fender or bumper cover. For front turn signals, remove the screw from the indicator unit, withdraw the light unit, and twist the bulb holder to remove the bulb. Side repeaters require sliding the assembly downwards and disconnecting the bulb holder. For front fog lights, remove the splash shield, disconnect the wiring, and release the wire clip to take out the bulb. For rear fog lights and backup lights, remove the rear light unit, turn the bulb holder counterclockwise, and twist the bulb to remove it. The rear light cluster requires removing securing nuts and screws, carefully separating the bulb holder, and twisting to release the bulb. License plate lights involve prying out the assembly or removing lens screws, while high-mount brake lights on 2007 and earlier models require unscrewing the light cover and unclipping the bulb holder, whereas 2008 and later models use a non-replaceable LED unit that must be replaced as an assembly.

To replace front turn signal bulbs, loosen wheel lug nuts, raise vehicle, remove wheel and inner fender splash shield. Turn signal bulb holder counterclockwise to remove, take out bulb. For high-mount brake light bulbs, remove assembly, disconnect connector, replace bulb. For brake/tail/turn/back-up light bulbs, remove assembly, rotate bulb socket counterclockwise, replace bulb. For license plate light bulbs, remove light assembly, turn socket counterclockwise, replace bulb. For side turn signal lamps, slide housing rearward, disconnect wiring, reinstall in reverse. For fog light bulbs, remove wheel, splash shield fasteners, disconnect wiring, remove bulb. For interior/map reading light bulbs, pry lens from assembly, replace bulb. For cargo light bulbs, pry assembly from headliner, remove bulb, insert new bulb, reinstall assembly.

First of all, ensure that the ignition and headlight switches are turned off. Next, raise the hood. After that, unplug the electrical connector from the headlight assembly for earlier models like 2007. Then remove the rubber boot and bulb retainer spring. Remove the bulb without touching its glass part. Insert a new bulb ensuring that its metal tabs align with the plastic base. Push the bulb till it is fully seated into position. Reattach the rubber book and spring back onto their previous positions. Now plug in the connector again. Close up by testing headlights and closing the hood again, for model years 2008 as well as subsequent versions repeat the above steps but twist counterclockwise then pull out the bulb after testing headlights close up by closing the hood again.

Pry or slide the light assembly from the liftgate, remove the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise, and replace the bulb. Reassemble following the reverse of removal.

Test the headlight operation, then close the hood.

Remove the rubber cover from the back of the headlight housing (Typical protective rubber cover).Turn the bulb counterclockwise and remove it from the headlight housing.Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb (To remove the low-beam headlight bulb, rotate the bulb counterclockwise and pull it out of the housing, then spread the locking tabs apart and disconnect the electrical connector).

Disconnect the headlamp from the connector by raising the tab on the connector.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
