It is possible to perform the following procedures using only a metre bar if a special tool for torsion bar removal and installation is available. To start with, turn the front wheels fully forward, then jack up the car, and ensure that it is support on jackstands. The torsion bar cover plate has to be unbolted from the frame. First, determine the number of turns you want to remove from the adjustment bolt which depends on the car's condition as well as the sort of road it will travel over, set the wrench and then measure the distance that the torsion bar adjustment bolt protrudes from the adjustment nut so as to have this dimension for future reference. 'Screw in the special tool to the crossmember and torsion bar adjuster so that the latter can be raised from the adjustment bolt by tightening. Loosen the adjustment bolt remove the torsion bar nut and take account the number of turns for removal. Take off the adjustment bolt and nut, the previous one should be discarded because the new one is coated with a special adhesive in order not to back out. Release the torsion bar tool such that there will be no force on the torsion bar while aligning it and making a mark on the relation between the torsion bar and the adjuster. Lower with adjuster off-remove the insulator and pull the torsion bar out of the lower control arm after removing the adjuster from the bar. For removal, reverse the process while for installation a new adjustment bolt must be used and should come through original coated adhesive. After replacing the bolt with the new one simply turn the bolt to the same number of turns as before and then note the height of the bolt from the adjustment nut, then compare the with the previous value. After lowering the vehicle level it from right to left side by turning the torsion bar adjustment bolt then roll it rearward and forward and jounce the suspension several times. Last, take the front-end alignment to a dealer service department, or better still, an alignment shop .
