To replace the hood latch, first open the hood and mark a line around the latch for alignment, then remove the retaining bolts securing the latch to the radiator support and take out the latch. Next, squeeze the cable retainer to release the cable from the latch assembly and disengage the cable end plug from the latch. For the release cable, work in the engine compartment to disconnect it from the latch after removing the hood latch. On 2011 and earlier models, take out the radiator grille pin-type fasteners and panel, then detach the two release cable clips from the radiator support. For 2012 and later models, remove the battery tray and air filter housing. Loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, and remove the wheel along with the inner fender splash shield. Open the two release cable clips in the upper part of the fender opening and detach the release cable from the clips. On 2012 and later models, it may be necessary to remove the Smart Junction Box, then disengage the release cable clip from the wiring harness. Remove the two hood release handle mounting bolts, pull out the handle, disengage the release cable from the release handle, and pull the release cable through the firewall. Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.
