The hood and rear liftgate are rather massive and difficult to hold when being opened so it is recommended that at least two individuals do this. First of all start with the removal of the hood or the rear liftgate depending on the type of car, this can be done in the Ford Excursion. After that, with a small screwdriver, loosen up small clips on the two ends of the support strut then you either pry or pull out sharply with your hand the strut from the car. However, to do this you have to first unlock the clip and then remove the end of the strut from the locating stud. One needs an assistant to hold the hood or the lift gate steady before trying to take off the support strut. After the strut has been removed, it is relatively very easy to install it back since it involves the reversal of the removal procedure.
