2013 Ford Taurus Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a front crankshaft seal in four cylinder engine on 2013 Ford Taurus?
A: Remove the crankshaft pulley. In order to remove the seal, best use a screwdriver or hook tool-it is crucial not to cause any harm to the timing chain cover bore and the crankshaft nose and sealing surface. Another way of doing this is by having drilled on either side of the seal and then applying self taping screws to pull the seal out With out prying. Clean the sealing faces at the engine cover and at the crankshaft webs, then clean and apply to the faces engine oil. New seal has to be pressed into the timing chain cover in such fashion that it remains parallel while being put in the bore. A seal driver or a proper socket of the right size should be used to gently crash the seal into position such that it sits flat against the timing chain cover and is square with the cover when inserted. Using clean engine oil apply it to the lip of the seal that is in contact with crankshaft. Last is the Crankshaft pulley, which should also be fitted correctly on the engine of the vehicle.
