2008 Ford Focus Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the oil pan in 2.0L zetec-e engine on 2008 Ford Focus?
A: These are as follows; switch off the engine, apply the handbrakes, find a suitable surface on which to jack up the front part of the car and then support with stands. Remove the engine oil and place it into the proper receptacle, clean the engine oil drain bolt as well as install the engine oil drain plug securely while employing the applicable torque. It may be necessary to replace the oil filter, and if so, the filter should be unscrewed and discarded. An ordinary oil pan gasket is not used; there is use of sealant. Gradually turn the oil pan retaining bolts counterclockwise to free the joint; strike the oil pan to break the joint and then slowly lower it down freeing it from the engine block carefully so as not to mar the surfaces in contact. For installation, the mating surfaces must be clean and free from grease, and all the remains of sealant must be wiped off. Ten M6x20 mm studs are suggested when fitting the oil pan to avoid misalignment and achievement of the correct alignment. Trowel a 1/8-inch wide line of sealant at the outer face of the pen flange starting 3/16-inch from the outer perimeter of the flange and around the perimeter of all bolt holes. The oil pan requires to be fitted within 10 minutes of having the sealant applied to the pan. Position the oil pan over the studs, fit six of the bolts and then put finger tight. Remove the remaining studs and fit the bolts instead then in turn, tighten all the bolts to stage one torque in a crosswise manner then stage two torque. Last, lower the car and after approximately 1 hour when the sealant is already set, pour the oil into the engine and using the sharp knife cut off the excessive sealant.
