2007 Ford Focus Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the oil pan in 2.3L and 2.0L engine on 2007 Ford Focus?
A: The oil pan can be removed by engaging the handbrake, lifting the front part of the car and placing it on axle stands. Siphon out the engine oil, clean the gen oil drain plug and fit a new one before tightening to the recommended torque. If the drain plug seat is additionally damaged one require a new drain plug. The oil filter should be removed and the element discarded if it is to be replaced and the oil dipstick tube mounting bolt and the dipstick tube are required to be removed. Succeeding that, unscrew the timing chain cover to oil pan bolts and studs plus the nut for the wiring harness. I believe one has to always unscrew and remove the pan to transmission bolts before progressively unscrewing and removing the oil pan retention bolts but at this moment all perimeter bolts should have been removed. Leverage the scraper to apply pressure on the joint and break the bond of the sealant around the oil pan without harming the mating surfaces and then have the oil pan lowered to pull out with the engine/transmission. As at installation, first, remove all dirt and grease on the mating surfaces of the cylinder block/crankcase and oil pan, then wipe the pan with a clean cloth. A 3.0 mm bead of sealant has to be applied to the oil pan flange around the inside edge of the bolt holes, while oil pan has to be installed within 4 minutes of applying the sealant. Raise the oil pan and push the retaining bolts in place but do not at this point give them tightness. It was established to tighten the oil pan bolts to the transaxle end first, timing cover bolts/studs then the perimeter bolts to the block-(see torque specifications and tightening sequence). There is a small rubber O-ring on the end of the oil dipstick tube: remove the tube, and ensure the O-ring is in good condition, and replace it if it is worn or damaged, then fit the tube back to the engine bay securely. Lastly, lower the car to the ground, always add engine oil at the end of servicing and replace the oil filter, check for engine oil leakages once the engine is running again and up to its optimum temperate.
