2007 Ford Focus Oil Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How is the removal of the oil pump carried out in 2.0L zetec-e engine on 2007 Ford Focus?
A: Although it is feasible to carry out this job with the engine fitted, it is probably wiser to remove it because of the much preliminary disassembly which is necessary and also due to the fact that space is rather limited. The oil pump pressure relief valve is usually removed with the engine in place. To start with, you have to eliminate the timing belt; further, to 2003 and later models, it is required to unbolt the air conditioning compressor without disconnecting the AC lines and set it aside, and then do away with the compressor mounting bracket. Remove crankshaft sprocket and the thrust washer placing the latter in the remembered position. Take off the oil pan and, when it comes to the 2003 and later models, the drivebelt tensioner too. Remove the bolts holding the oil pump pick-up/strainer pipe in place to the lower crankcase and pull out this pipe while replacing the gasket. Gradually get the bolts loosened and remove the lower crankcase while ensuring you get back the spacer washers and gasket and do clean any sealant residues. The pump is then unbolted from the cylinder block/crankcase and the gasket has to be discarded while the crankshaft right hand oil seal is removed alongside the pump with the tapping cleaner done on all the removed parts. Take off the pump cover plate by losening the Torx screw; record on any of the identification marks noticeable on the rotors; examine for any worn-out or damaged part and replace as required. Some of the main components of the oil pressure relief valve need not be removed together with the pump; the vehicle must be properly jacked up and preferably be fitted with the front right hand wheel removed and the auxiliary drivebelt cover to gain access to the unit; unscrewing a threaded plug releases the valve spring and plunger. The reassembly process is carried out in the reverse order of the disassembly, with a check on how perfectly the spring and the valve have been fitted in place, and then the threaded plug having to be tightened to the required measure. After disassembling oil pump, the interior of the housing and all parts should be lubricated with oil; and all the bolts of the oil pump cover should be tightened to the recommended torque. When installing its pump, it needs to be primed, during which clean engine oil is poured into the pump sump and the inner rotor is rotated. Place the crankshaft flats to the pump's inner rotor, put the pump and new gasket and then use the appropriate bolts, loosely at the outset. Ensure that the pump fits the crankshaft 'square', the mating surface should be .015-.031 inch below that of the cylinder block/crankcase on each side. If required, undo the bolts and perform the alignment process gain. Replace an oil pump housing oil seal and fill the gaps between the oil pump and cylinder block with RTV sealant and make sure that the lower crankcase is in place and bolted before the 10 minutes elapses. Lift the lower crankcase into place with a new gasket and temporarily fasten it with bolts; make sure that the crankcase and the cylinder block-align before final tightening of bolts to the prescribed torque. Place the gasket in position and retighten the retaining bolts while applying the use of grease to hold the gasket properly in position Install the pickup/strainer pipe and tightening the retaining bolts to the set torque. The rest of the reassembly is the reverse of the removal process that has been explained above.
