  A: If you plan to do away with the timing chain you will need to take out the camshaft sprockets, to help you remember what went where you should take an identifying number of the bearing caps and make a timetable out of it to install everything back to the right order. Take the outside diameter of each journal and check the running clearance with Plastigage and replace worn out parts when necessary. This requires camshaft end play, first, clean the bearing surfaces, then position the camshafts, before using the dial indicator to measure the end play. In reassembly of the engine, lubricate the cylinder head tappet bores and tappets before placing each tappet in its respective bore. Lubricate the camshaft journals and the bearing caps and place all the caps and the camshaft in their designated postions as marked when you removed the assembly. Camshaft alignment tool must then be fitted, and contact surfaces of the tool are to be clean, while applying a thin layer of the anaerobic sealant on the camshafts' front bearing cap mating surfaces. Further, torque the camshaft bearing cap bolts in the said sequence, augmented in a gradual manner to the said values. Remove all solidified sealant and allow enough time to set to so while putting back the camshaft sprockets and timing chain, reassemble in the reverse manner with which they were removed but check the valve clearances before putting down the valve cover.
