Connect a fused jumper wire to terminal 86 and the positive battery terminal. Connect another jumper wire between terminal 85 and ground. When the connections are made, the relay should click.

Remove the relay from the vehicle and use the ohmmeter to check for continuity between the relay power circuit terminals. There should be no continuity between terminal 30 and 87 with the relay de-energized.

To test a suspected faulty relay, follow these steps. Remove the relay from the vehicle. Check for continuity between the relay power circuit terminals (terminals 30 and 87). There should be no continuity between them. Connect a fused jumper wire between one of the two control circuit terminals and the positive battery terminal. Connect another jumper wire between the other control circuit terminal and ground. When the connections are made, the relay should click. Check for continuity between the power circuit terminals (terminals 30 and 87) again. There should be continuity between them now.

The various relays are mounted in the engine compartment and several locations throughout the vehicle. The underhood power center, located next to the battery in the engine compartment, contains relays and high-amperage fuses.
