    Q:
How is the Turn Signal Flasher controlled, and what steps should be taken if it malfunctions on Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
Both the turn signals and the hazard flashers are controlled by an electronic flasher unit which can be found on 2001 and earlier models just below the steering column near the instrument panel on the right, or on the 2002 model behind the glove box in the relay #1 box. In normal condition, there is sound which is similar to a click during operation of the flasher unit. However, if the side turn signal indicator blinks much faster than usual the car's turn signal bulb is burnt out. If both signals do not blink, it is a problem with the bulbs if the fuses are blown; the flasher unit; the switch is broken; or if there are loose or open connections. Examining the fuse box and looking for a turn signal fuse that has blown is helpful and it is advised that before putting a new fuse in you look at the wiring and see if there is a short. For 2006 and later models, there are two fuses related to the turn signal lighting: There is one for the hazard flasher circuit and one for the turn signal circuit. For the flasher, there are plugs and sockets; to de-assemb1e simply unplug the connections and remove the screw of the flasher restraining clip. Make sure that the kind of unit assembled in the circuit is the same as the one removed by comparing it before fixing it which is done in the reverse way to the removal process.

    Q:
How to check and replace Turn Signal Flasher on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer
    A:
On 2006 and earlier models, the turn signal and hazard flashers are controlled from a single electronic flasher unit mounted to the right of the steering column under the instrument panel, while 2007 and later models incorporate the flasher function into a Generic Electronic Module called the Smart Junction Block, which manages various exterior lighting functions. When functioning properly, the flasher unit emits an audible click; if the turn signals fail on one side and the clicking sound is absent, it suggests a faulty turn signal bulb. If both turn signals do not blink, potential issues could include a blown fuse, a faulty flasher unit, a broken switch, or a loose connection, and a blown fuse should prompt a check for wiring shorts before replacing it. To replace the flasher, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the screw securing the flasher retaining bracket, ensuring the replacement unit matches the original before installation, which follows the reverse of the removal process.

    Q:
How to replace the Turn Signal Flasher relay on the Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. The flasher relay is located under the instrument panel to the right of the steering column. Remove the flasher by pulling straight out. Install the new flasher unit, ensuring that the metal contacts align with the slots in the fuse panel, and press the flasher firmly into place.
