    What steps are involved in the removal of the Coil Spring for the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Nadine M.

    Loosen the wheel lug nuts. Raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Remove the wheels. On 1988 through 1991 models, disconnect the stabilizer bar from the link. Remove the shock absorber. Disconnect the center link from the Pitman arm. Use a suitable spring compressor, to relieve tension on the spring. Compress the spring. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the inner end of the lower control arm to the frame. Slowly lower the control arm. Remove the spring and compressor as a unit. Note the installation of the upper insulator between the upper end of the spring and the frame. If the spring is to be replaced, slowly loosen the spring compressor tool until all tension is removed, then remove the tool. You can Select Your Vehicle to see complete installation and repair tips.

    Use a jack placed under the axle housing to support the rear axle assembly. Additionally, position a safety chain through one of the spring coils and around a convenient frame member to prevent the spring from flying out before it's fully extended.
