Some 1995 and later models have modifications in their front brake caliper and brake pads. To replace the brake pads, remove the brake fluid reservoir cover and siphon out half of the brake fluid. Loosen lug nuts, raise and secure the vehicle, and remove the wheels. Inspect the brake disc and remove if machining is needed. Remove the caliper mounting bolts and depress the caliper piston. Remove the caliper and brake pad assembly, then replace the inner and outer brake pads. Apply thread locking compound and grease to the caliper bolts. Hang the caliper from the upper control arm on some models. Tighten the caliper bolts, depress the brake pedal, check the brake fluid level, and top it off if needed.

To remove the caliper and brake pad assembly, first remove the caliper mounting bolts. Then, depending on the model year, follow specific steps provided.

Remove the master cylinder cap, check the fluid level, and remove about half of the fluid. Then, remove the inner shoe hold-down clips, outer brake pad retaining clips, caliper locating pins, and upper stabilizer. Lift the caliper assembly from the anchor plate, remove the outer pad, and depress the piston into the caliper with a C-clamp.
