Ford E3TZ-4234-C Rear Axle Shaft Assembly

Always ensure that an axle unit is changed for one of identical type and gear ratio.

Installation is the reverse of removal. Install a new gasket between the brake backing plate and the axle housing flange. Be careful not to damage the inner lips of the axle seal when you are inserting the axleshaft into the housing. Install the axleshaft retaining nuts and tighten to the torque.

The Dana model 60 Monobeam axle is now standard on the F350 4x4.

Remove the axle assembly free from the vehicle by simultaneously lowering and sliding out to disengage the right-hand axleshaft from the stub axle slip joint.

Install the right-hand axle shaft as follows. Ensure that the rubber boot is properly installed on the carrier stub shaft. Slide a new outer axle shaft boot clamp onto the rubber boot. The model 35 front axle does not use blind, or master, splines. Therefore, special attention should be made to ensure that the yoke ears are in line (in phase) during assembly. Slide the right axle shaft assembly through the hole in the steering knuckle, into the rubber boot and engage the splines of the stub shaft. Ensure the splines are fully engaged. Position the rubber boot and clamp onto the outer axle shaft and crimp the clamp securely on the rubber boot using Keystone Clamp Pliers T63P-9171-A.

Use Ford part No. ESP-M2C154-A locking differential fluid or its equivalent, and add 4 oz. of Ford part No. EST-M2C118-A friction modifier or its equivalent.

The second location is on a metal tag hanging from the axle cover-to-carrier bolt at the 2 o'clock position in the cover bolt circle.

Unscrew and remove the bolts which attach the axleshaft flange to the hub. There is no need to remove the wheel or jack up the vehicle.

Position a jack under the axle assembly.

Remove the brake vent tube (if equipped).
