- A:With the engine running and the parking brake fully released, insert a slender, sharp-pointed prod through the carpet and sound deadener material until it contacts the firewall and measure the distance to the upper middle of the brake pedal. If the position of the pedal isn't within the dimension, check the brake pedal linkage for missing, worn or damaged bushings and, if necessary, replace them. If the pedal free height is still out of specification, check the pedal, booster and master cylinder and verify that the correct parts are installed.
