    Q:
What are the removal and installation procedures for the oil pan in four cylinder engine on Ford Escape? Posted by Customer
    A:
For 2008 and earlier models, begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jackstands, then drain the engine oil and clean the drain plug before reinstalling it with the proper torque. Remove and discard the oil filter, followed by the catalytic converter from the exhaust system. Unscrew the oil pan retaining bolts progressively, using a rubber mallet to loosen the seal, and carefully lower the oil pan, taking care not to damage the mating surfaces. Clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the lower engine block and oil pan, applying a 1/8-inch wide bead of sealant to the oil pan flange, ensuring it is positioned correctly. Install the oil pan bolts in a criss-cross pattern, tightening them sequentially, then lower the vehicle and allow the sealant to cure before refilling with oil and installing a new oil filter. For 2009 and later models, loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and remove the left front wheel. Remove the throttle body air intake duct and drain the engine oil. Loosen the top two transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts, and for 4WD models, also loosen the corresponding bolts on the transfer case. Remove the splash shield and the bolts securing the oil pan to the transaxle, then slide the transaxle away from the engine. Remove the bolts securing the front cover to the oil pan and those attaching the oil pan to the engine block. If necessary, bump the oil pan with a block of wood to break it loose. Clean and degrease the mating surfaces, applying a bead of RTV sealant to the oil pan sealing surfaces. Install the oil pan and secure the front cover and engine block bolts finger tight, then tighten the front cover-to-oil pan bolts first, followed by the engine-to-oil pan bolts in a criss-cross pattern. Alternate tightening the transaxle mounting bolts until secure, then install the transaxle-to-oil pan bolts and tighten them. Reinstall the splash shield, tighten the remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts, and finally, install the air intake duct before filling the engine with new oil after ensuring the RTV sealant has cured.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pan in V6 engine on Mercury Mariner? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the oil pan as follows, disconnect the bady cable from the car's negative terminal, and then lift the car and keep it on stands. Remove the engine oil and replace the oil drain plug, be sure to tighten it to the proper torque and use a new gasket if one is provided. Second, the oil filter has to be then taken off and the oxygen sensor connector(s) must be disconnected. Continue to the floor and delete the crossover and flexible exhaust pipe and converter assembly from the car, then, the driveplate access cover. The bolts that hold the oil pan to the transaxle has to be unscrewed to remove the oil pan and also some of the fasteners must also be removed in order to locate some of the stud bolts. Remove the oil pan gasket and, if necessary, remove the fasteners which secure the oil screen and pick-up tube; then, remove the screen and tube. Scrub the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces to remove the gasket material well with lacquer thinner or acetone as required. For installation, if removed, replace the O-ring seal of the oil pick-up tube, then replace the tube and screen assembly and torque the retaining fasteners to the prescribed level and replace the self-locking nut for the pick-up tube support bracket. Replace oil pan gasket and spread a 1/8 inch bead of RTV sealant around the engine front cover-to cylinder block parting line. With proper care beef up the oil pan without removing the gasket, then torque the pan bolts along with stud bolts; the noted places are only for stud bolts. Starting from the oil pan-to-transaxle bolts, engage the oil pan against the transaxle; thereafter, loosely tighten the bolts that are concerned with the transaxle before going ahead to tighten the oil pan bolt uniformly to the required torque. Lastly, reverse the procedures mentioned under removal by reinstalling them in their proper places, and tightening all bolts/screws to the right torque values; in the event that self-locking nuts were interfered with in the removal process, ensure you replace them before finalising the sequence.
