- A:To replace the oil cooler, you need to disconnect the oil and coolant hoses from the cooler. On 2WD models, you use a 1/2-inch Allen wrench to remove the oil cooler housing from the oil filter adapter housing. On 4WD models, you remove a single bolt retaining the cooler to its bracket and two bolts holding the oil line assembly on the cooler.
