    Q:
How do electric rear view car mirrors operate and what steps should be taken to troubleshoot them on Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
    A:
Most electric rear view mirrors utilize two motors for adjustments, then basic motion.one for the vertical movement and the other for the horizontal movement. The control switch used includes a selection that enables voltage to be supplied either through the left or right side mirror. Place the select lever in the 'park' position and open the windows and operate the mirror control switch through each function for both the mirrors and test for the loud sound of the electric motors to confirm. If the motors are noisy but the mirror glass does not move, there is a problem with the drive most probably and the mirror has to be taken off and dismantled to have the fault isolated. When the mirrors are uncommunicative and seemingly unable to respond, then, the fuse should be checked. If fuse is okay, then, with the wires still connected, remove the mirror control switch on the body, engage the ignition on, and check with a meter for voltage at the switch, one terminal should display voltage. If not found, look for an open or a short in the wiring between the fuse panel and the switch. If voltage is present, then remove the switch and carry out continuity check in all positions; if no continuity, then replacement is required. Connect the switch back and find the wire going to ground; then with the switch connected, use another wire and short this wire to the ground. Should the mirror function properly, then reconnect the bad ground. If the mirror does not turn on, replace it with a standard mirror, and test for voltage at the mirror wires with the ignition ON and the selector switch in correct position and test for voltage at one of the switch to mirror wire in all the positions except the "neutron OFF" button. If there is no voltage on any position, check between the mirror and the control switch for wiring problem. If voltage is confirmed, test the mirror off the vehicle with jumper wires and replace this mirror if it fails this test.

    Q:
How to remove and install a car mirror on the Ford Edge? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disengage the sail panel clips and remove the panel by prying it out. For 2015 and later models, the door panel must be removed to access the electrical connectors. Disconnect the electrical connector from the mirror, which includes the mirror electrical connector and the mirror mounting nuts. Remove the mirror mounting nuts and take out the mirror. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How do electric sideview car mirrors operate and what steps should be taken if they malfunction on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
Most electric sideview mirrors utilize two motors for adjustments; one motor controls vertical movement while the other manages horizontal movement. The control switch features a selector that directs voltage to either the left or right side mirror. With the ignition ON but the engine OFF, roll down the windows and operate the mirror control switch through all functions for both mirrors. Listen for the sound of the electric motors running; if the motors are audible but the mirror glass remains stationary, there may be an issue with the drive mechanism. If there is no sound from the motors, check the fuse. If the fuse is intact, remove the mirror control switch and have its continuity checked by a qualified repair facility. Additionally, test the ground connections. If the mirror still does not function, remove it and check for voltage at the wires. If voltage is absent in each switch position, inspect the circuit between the mirror and control switch for any opens or shorts. If voltage is present, remove the mirror and test it off the vehicle using jumper wires, replacing it if it fails this test.

    Q:
What are the troubleshooting steps for electric rear car mirrors on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
These models come with Smart Junction Box (SJB), or Body Control Module (BCM), integrating many systems to one control module; diagnostics with the help of a professional grade scan tool are simple and accurate. The SJB or BCM performs control activities such as; doors and windows including, door lock and power window, ignition lock and security system, illumination including interior lights, Daytime Running Lights, horn, windshield wipers, heating/air conditioning, and power mirror. If this occurs, it is possible to take the vehicle to the service department of the manufacturers or any automotive repair center. The electric rear view mirrors utilize two motors for adjustments: This requires a unique joint for vertical movement and another one for the horizontal movement. The control switch also has a selector where voltage can be sent to the side mirror left or the side mirror right. With the ignition in the ACC position turn off the engine, and then lower the windows, and perform a test on all functions for both mirrors while the sound of the electric motors can be heard. If the motors are audible and the mirror glass does not move then there may be a problem with an assembly or motor inside the mirror glass which can only be replaced as an assembly. In case where the mirrors do not operate and no sound is produced, check for the fuses. Should the fuses be good, then, the mirror control switch should be taken out, and its continuity taken to a qualified shop. Further, there are the ground connections to check. If the mirror is still not functional, pull down the mirror wires, as a DC voltage should be read. If, in each switch position, there is no voltage, check for opens and shorts in the circuit between the mirror and control switch. In case voltage is identified, the mirror should be disconnected and tested else on the vehicle with the help of jumper wires, however, should fail this test, then it should be replaced.
