    How to remove and install the ignition lock cylinder on Ford Expedition? Posted by Customer

    To remove the ignition lock cylinder it is required that the negative cable be disconnected from the battery followed by disconnecting the positive cable and waiting for 2 minutes. Second, switch the key to the Run position. Use a 1/8 inch punch to push down on the hole located at the bottom of the steering column cover that is surrounding the lock cylinder at the same time pulling on the lock refer to it as cylinder to be able to remove it from the housing of the steering column. For installation, push in the retaining pin located on the side of the lock cylinder and turn the ignition key to the 'Run' position. Place the lock cylinder back into the steering column housing so as to fit into the hole provided and slide in until it locates the interlocking washer appropriately. Twist the key anticlockwise to unlock the retaining pin so that it goes back to it slot at the steering column housing. Last of all, rotate the lock to ensure that the operation is correct in all positions and finally fix the lock in place by reversing all the operations that were followed to remove the lock.

    Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers. For 2004 through 2008 models, remove the multi-function switch, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by depressing the release tab and pulling out the connector, and then remove the ignition switch by depressing the release tabs on the top and bottom and pulling it out to the left. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2009 and 2010 models, position the steering column in the full-down position if equipped with manual tilt steering wheels, remove the steering wheel, detach the wiring harness retainers from the steering column, disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition switch, multifunction switch, clockspring, Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), ignition key, and interlock actuator if equipped, remove the three bolts and multifunction switch carrier if applicable, remove the ignition switch mounting screw, and then remove the switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2011 and later models, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch, detach the ignition switch from the steering column by depressing the release tabs and pulling it out, and installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder, first remove the steering wheel and steering column covers, then remove the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) transceiver by depressing the release tab, pulling off the electrical connector, unscrewing the bolt, and removing the transceiver. Insert the ignition key into the Ignition Lock Cylinder, turning it to the ON position for 2004 through 2008 models or to the ACC position for 2009 and later models. Insert an awl or small screwdriver into the hole on the underside of the Ignition Lock Cylinder, depress the retaining tab, and remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Installation is the reverse of removal.
