    Q:
How to remove and install the cylinder heads in 3.0L V6 engine on Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the components, then you have to first disconnect the negative cable from the battery and you should also drain the cooling system including the engine block drain plugs. Then turn the air cleaner inlet tube and air cleaner assembly, then the intake manifold counter-clockwise and remove it. Take off the drivebelts, and, if the left cylinder head is to be eliminated, undo those bolts that attach the air conditioning compressor to the block and lift the compressor away without disconnecting the hoses and put it aside. Loosen and temporarily unbolt the power steering pump from its mounting bracket although with the hoses still attached; then put it aside, together with the mounting bracket. Extract the ignition coil bracket as well as dipstick tube, as well as the right cylinder head, alternator and its accompanying bracket. Take off the ground strap and the throttle cable bracket and the exhaust manifold(s) and the valve cover(s). Then rotate the crankshaft and loosen the rocker arms together with the pushrods and unbolt the cylinder heads before lifting them up slowly, to not harm the gasket surfaces on the heads. For installation, first, clean and verify that both gasket mating surfaces are free from crack or warpage while those parts of the engine that are not covered are shield with shop cloth to avoid dropping dirt on them. As needed, remove and refit the heads, making certain all the bolt and bolt hole threads appear healthy and dry without the slightest trace of gunk or moisture: apply a light coat of oil to heads, studs and bolts, and align the head gasket with help from the dowels, then check that the mark is reading UP or TOP. Reinstall the heads and head bolts, torque them in two steps to the factory recommended torque reading and then replace all the other parts that were removed in the sequence. Check these and fill them, start the engine and check if everything is working as it should, and if there is any leakage.

    Q:
What is the final step in the removal process for the 2001 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lift the cylinder head off the engine. If it's difficult to remove, carefully pry it off. Pry against a casting protrusion, not against gasket surfaces.

    Q:
What should be done with the cylinder head bolts for the 2001 Ford Ranger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts using a T55 Torx bit. Do not use an Allen wrench as it may round out the bolt heads. The bolts must be replaced with new ones whenever they are removed, and they should be loosened in several stages.
