    Q:
Should engine mounts be replaced immediately if they are broken or deteriorated in 4.0L pushrod V6 engine on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts are very rarely an issue, but if any of the mounts are broken or worn they should be replaced as soon as possible to stop the drive line parts from wearing. During the check the engine should be lifted slightly off the mounts to take the weight off the mounts. Lift the vehicle until you find it convenient to place jack stands under it and securely tighten and place a jack under the engine oil pan. If the vehicle is fitted with Automatic Ride Control (ARC), make sure that the air suspension is switched off before lifting the vehicle to prevent damage on the air suspension parts. Interpose one large block of wood between the jack head and oil pan then, gradually jack the engine upwards, enough to lighten the load on the mounts. Check if there're any cracks on the mounts, hardening of rubber or that it has pulled from the metal plates as the rubber can split right down the middle. Probe the separate mount plates for relative movement toward the engine or frame utilizing a large screwdriver or pry bar; in case of the presence of such movement, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. It is also advisable to apply rubber preservative to help in reducing the rate of deterioration that it undergoes. To remove the mounts, first, unfasten the negative terminal on your battery, and if the car is still on the ground ready it on a jack and support it using jack stands if necessary. Take off the fasteners and snap off the mount from the frame bracket position. Lift the engine with a jack or hoist, so that the fan is away from the radiator or shroud, and then unbolt and take off the mount-to-lock. As for removal, installation is really the exact opposite; apply thread locking compound to the mount bolts and make sure they are torqued properly.

    Q:
How should engine mounts be checked and replaced in 4.0L SOHC V6 engine on Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts are usually trouble-free, but if some of them are cracks or completely worn out, they should be replaced to prevent further damage or wear of other drive line parts. To check the mounts, the engine has to be lifted a little so as to take the weight off the mounts. First, lift the car and apply jack stands after that, place the jack underneath the engine oil pan. If it has Automatic Ride Control, switch off the air suspension switch before lifting it to prevent the damaging of it's components. Put a piece of wood with about the same diameter as the jack head but wider in thickness than the oil pan separating the two surfaces, then lift the engine approximately off the weight placed on the mounts. Check the mounts for cracks, when the rubber has become too hard and if the rubber mounts have detached from the metal plates a little bit of space is always apparent and the rubber will be split down the middle. Make sure that mount plates move relatively to the engine or frame, if this is observable, then lower down the engine and torqued the mount fasteners using large screwdriver pry-bar. To retard the process of deterioration, then the mounts should be treated with rubber preservative. For replacement, first, remove the negative battery terminal, then lift the vehicle, and set it on jack stands, if the vehicle contains Automatic Ride Control, make sure set the Air Suspension switch off. Loosen the engine electric cooling fan/shroud assembly to reveal four nuts of the mount to the engine bracket which are done from inside the engine compartment on the top. Lift the engine up a little with a jack or hoist, then take off the mount-through bolt/nut and cut off the mount from the bracket of the chassis. Than removal, installation is the opposite; one should apply thread locking on the mount bolts, and tighten them.

    Q:
How to replace the motor and transmission mount on the Ford Explorer Sport Trac? Posted by Customer
    A:
To begin servicing 1997-model and newer models start by inserting a large screwdriver or pry bar under the space between the transmission extension housing and frame cross member for prying it upwards. The transmission should stay close to the mount during this process since mount replacement becomes necessary if it moves too far from position. A jack should support the transmission through a wooden padding piece that rests on top of the transmission case. Then gently apply power to the jack to lift the transmission weight. Begin by removing nuts at both ends of the mount that attach to the frame cross member as well as bolts that affix the mount to the transmission extension housing. There exists an exhaust mount bracket under the right-side transmission mount bolt that might require minor pulling away after removing this bolt. Flatten the transmission with the jack until the studs on the bottom of the transmission mount can clear the cross member and then uninstall the old mount before installing a new one. Install the mount following steps that reverse the process of removal.

    Q:
How do you support the weight of the transmission with a Motor And Transmission Mount during this process on a 2001 Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Place a jack under the transmission with a wood block on top of it to protect the transmission case. Apply a slight amount of jack pressure to support the weight of the transmission.

    Q:
How should the 1999 Ford Explorer be prepared for checking the Engine Mounts? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan. If the vehicle is equipped with Automatic Ride Control (ARC), make sure the air suspension switch is turned to the OFF position before raising the vehicle to prevent damage to the system components.
