    Q:
How to remove and install the instrument cluster on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
For models from 2004 through 2008, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, remove the instrument cluster bezel and disconnect the electrical connectors from the instrument cluster by depressing the release tab and pushing the lock down before pulling the connector straight up. Then, remove the instrument cluster mounting bolts; for vehicles with a manual transmission, simply detach the cluster, while for those with an automatic transmission, pull it out just enough to disconnect the gear position indicator by squeezing the release tabs and pulling it out. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. Additionally, lower the steering column to its lowest position, remove the two upper screws from the instrument cluster finish panel, and if applicable, shift the column lever to the lowest gear position. Remove the four instrument panel mounting bolts, pull the instrument cluster out just enough to disconnect the electrical connector, and then remove the cluster. Finally, installation is again the reverse of removal.

    Q:
Is the procedure for removing the instrument cluster difficult for the home mechanic on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is particularity burdensome for home mechanics owing to concealed screws, awkward positions, and many electrical terminals that are required to be labeled and disconnected. : Only for those, who have done it before and are known to be good at it, it is recommended to try it. Where indicated, take photographs as you pull parts off, for example the instrument panel, noting the position and method of attachment of the various components. While this is not necessary, the complete removal of both front seats offers extra working space throughout the car and as an added bonus the seats can be easily damaged. First of all, remove the battery cable from the negative terminal, then steer the front wheels until the are aligned with the direction of the car's travel and lock the steering column. Continue to cut the trim from around the A-pillars as well as the center console if fitted and steering wheel. For models produced between 2004 and 2008, the possibility of pulling off the instrument bezel is given; for all models, it is necessary to extract the instrument cluster. Subsequently, take out the glove box, center brace cover, the instrument panel center bezel, as well as the upper finish panel and the end caps using a flat-bladed tool or an instrument referred to as trim stick. Pull the hood release handle from the instrument panel / Pull the radio handles and remove the side kick panels which requires removal of the scuff plates. Pull cautiously at around the left and the right side defrost grilles to free them from the clips. Detach each of them individually by removing the pinch bolt on the steering column shaft and turning the harness connectors on the instrument panel loose: if necessary, use masking tape to keep track of the connections' positions. The fasteners that are located at the top, right side, left side and two at the center of the brackets fastening the instrument panel be detached. Slide the instrument panel forward and backward and disconnect any wire connectors that interfere with this process in the car. After all connectors are disconnected, raise the instrument panel up and remove it from the windshield and the best way to do so by pull it through the driver's door. This is done in the reverse manner of the removal process, whereby the installation is done in order until the targeted resource is installed.
