Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the accessory drivebelt. For vehicles with 7.3L engines, remove the radiator. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. For 6.0L engines, remove the cooling fan stator for clearance, and for 6.4L engines, remove the entire fan and the right-hand hose from the charge-air cooler. On models with 6.0L and 6.4L engines and two alternators, remove the drivebelt and the auxiliary alternator pulley. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt(s) using a chain wrench to hold the pulley; if unavailable, remove the flywheel driveplate access cover and use a special flywheel holding tool or wedge a large prybar between the flywheel teeth and the transmission bellhousing. A crankshaft pulley puller is not required for 6.0L and 6.4L engines, but for 7.3L engines, use a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley and store the key in a plastic bag until ready to install the pulley. Inspect the crankshaft pulley wear ring for galling, scoring, and other damage, replacing it if excessively worn or damaged. Use a puller to remove the crankshaft pulley wear ring and a big socket to install the new wear ring, ensuring the socket is appropriately sized. For 7.3L engines, install the key in the crankshaft slot and install the pulley and washer using a pulley installation tool if possible; for 6.0L engines, place the pulley on the crankshaft snout and bolt it in place. Tighten the bolt(s) to the specified torque, ensuring to replace the crankshaft pulley bolts with lightly oiled new ones whenever removed. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal.

Install the crankshaft pulley on the end of the crankshaft. The keyway in the crankshaft pulley must be aligned with the Woodruff key in the crankshaft. If the crankshaft pulley cannot be seated by hand, slip the large washer over the bolt, install the bolt and tighten it to pull the crankshaft pulley into place. Now loosen the bolt one full turn, then tighten the bolt to the torque.
