    Q:
How to remove the A/C Compressor on the Ford Excursion? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the air conditioning compressor, discharge the system and remove the drivebelt. For gasoline models, raise the vehicle, remove the right front wheel, release the clips on the lower fan shroud, and remove the fender splash shield if necessary. Disconnect the compressor lines, transmission fluid cooler lines (for automatic transmission), and electrical connectors. Remove the compressor mounting bolts and take out the compressor. For 7.3L diesel engines, disconnect the electrical connector and compressor lines, remove the old O-rings, and remove the compressor. For 6.0L and 6.4L engines, remove the transmission cooler, inner splash shield, disconnect the manifold and wiring, remove the compressor mounting bolts, and remove the compressor. If installing a new compressor, follow manufacturer's directions and transfer the clutch if needed. Replace manifold O-rings and lubricate with refrigerant oil. Installation is the reverse. Replace the orifice tube and have the system serviced by a professional.

    Q:
How to replace the A/C Compressor due to internal damage on Ford Mustang? Posted by Customer
    A:
If you are replacing the compressor due to internal damage, you must also replace the accumulator and the orifice tube. To remove the compressor, first have the air conditioning system discharged by a dealer service department or by an automotive air conditioning shop. Then, remove the drive belt(s), and the lower splash shield, if equipped. On 2010 and earlier models, remove the air duct between the air cleaner housing and the throttle body. Raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch field coil. Remove the small brackets mounted to the compressor mounting fasteners. Disconnect the compressor inlet and outlet line manifold from the compressor. Remove and discard the old O-rings. Remove the compressor mounting fasteners and carefully remove the compressor. For V8 models, disconnect the compressor inlet and outlet line manifold from the compressor. Remove and discard the old O-rings. On 2010 and earlier models, remove the two brackets that secure the power steering line in front of the steering gear. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) electrical connector and position the harness aside. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch field coil. Remove the wiring harness from the compressor mounting fasteners. Remove the compressor mounting fasteners and the compressor. If a new compressor is being installed, follow the directions with the compressor regarding the draining of excess oil prior to installation. The clutch may have to be transferred from the original compressor to the replacement. Before reconnecting the inlet and outlet lines to the compressor, replace all manifold O-rings and lubricate them with the appropriate refrigerant oil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Tighten the compressor line manifold and mounting fasteners to the torque. Replace the accumulator and the orifice tube if necessary. Have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.

Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, and remove the right front wheel. Remove the right front fender splash shield. Remove the drivebelt. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch field coil. Remove the compressor mounting bolts, then lower the compressor for access to the refrigerant line fittings if necessary. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor and discard the O-rings. Remove the compressor. If a new compressor is being installed, follow the directions with the compressor regarding the draining of excess oil prior to installation. The clutch may have to be transferred from the original to the new compressor. Before reconnecting the inlet and outlet lines to the compressor, replace all manifold O-rings and lubricate them with refrigerant oil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. Replace the orifice tube. Have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
