How to check the primary and secondary resistance of a coil and replace it? Posted by Customer
A:
To check the primary resistance of a coil, disconnect the electrical connector from the coil and connect an ohmmeter across the primary terminals. The resistance should be less than 5.0 ohms. If it is very high or open circuit, the coil may be defective. To check the secondary resistance, connect an ohmmeter between the secondary terminals of the coil. The resistance should be as specified in the specifications. To replace the coil, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector(s) and spark plug wires. Remove the bolts securing the coil to the mounting bracket and install the new coil, making sure to coat the interior of the rubber boot with Silicone Dielectric Compound and properly insert the spark plug wires into the terminals. Reinstall the radio ignition interference capacitor if applicable.
