The intermediate cable can be removed by taking off the cable adjusting nut from under the vehicle, disconnecting the intermediate cable ends at the left rear and the transverse cable, removing the cable and adjuster bracket assembly, keeping track of the order of the cotter pin, washer, and spring. Then, install the equalizer assembly onto the pin and connect the cable ends before reinstalling the adjusting nut.

For the intermediate and rear cables on 1990 and later models, ensure the parking brake is released, raise the rear of the vehicle, support it on jackstands, disconnect the rear cable (following specific procedures based on brake type), disconnect the left rear cable from the intermediate cable, and disconnect the right rear cable from the intermediate cable.
