The Throttle Cable and linkage control transmission line pressure, shift points, shift feel, part throttle downshifts, and detent downshifts. A broken, sticky, or misadjusted throttle cable linkage can lead to issues such as early or soft upshifts, no downshift, or harsh downshift function. Ensure the engine is off and the shift lever is in Neutral for the adjustment. Begin by removing the air cleaner assembly and inlet tube to access the throttle cable at the throttle lever. Use a wide-bladed screwdriver to pry the grooved pin on the cable assembly out of the grommet on the throttle body lever. Push the white locking tab out with a small screwdriver. Confirm that the plastic block with the pin and tab slides freely on the notched rod; if it doesn't, the white tab may not be pushed out far enough. Firmly hold the throttle lever against the Idle stop and push the grooved pin into the grommet on the throttle lever as far as it will go, ensuring the throttle lever remains against the idle stop during this process. Finally, reinstall the air cleaner assembly.

To remove the air intake duct, disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle lever and the cruise control cable from the cable bracket. To remove it from the accelerator pedal recess, separate the accelerator cable from the cable bracket. You can detach the accelerator cable clips from the intake manifold and valve cover and take out the cable through firewall. Reverse removal steps for installation while ensuring proper cable routing. Apply sealant if necessary to prevent water entry. Measure freeplay at the accelerator pedal (3/64 to 1/8-inch) to adjust. Loosen the locknut on the cable bracket and adjust deflection within the specified range.
