Open the hood and hold it up where you can see what you're doing. To access the hood latch on models made from 1996 on, you need to clear away the large plastic cover by taking off its plastic rivets. Mark around the hood latch on all sides so that you can rebuild it exactly as it was before. To remove the hood latch, disconnect its bolts and carefully take it out. Pull off the cable bushing and lift the cable eye over the anchor on the side. To complete this part, take the small cable fasteners off from both the radiator support and under the front panel. Free the hood release handle from its position on the instrument panel by unscrewing the holding screws. Cut the strip of tape that holds the cable against the steering column plate. From inside the car, take the cable grommet from its hole in the firewall and pull the cable through. Installation is the reverse of removal with the following additions: Feed the cable through the grommet in the firewall, making sure the grommet fits properly within its hole. Test the latch control cable functions before you put the hood back on its place.

Lift hood using a piece of wood in order to provide necessary support. Place alignment marks anywhere around the hood latch so that they can be easily identified when it is time to realign during the reassembly process. Disconnect the bolts holding the position of the hood latch and eliminate the latch. Remove the cable bushing and raise the cable eye above the anchor post. Observe the positioning of the cable within the housing of the engine compartment and unbolt any connectors which may hold the cable. This releases the electrical harness for the hood release handle; Withdraw the screws that fasten the handle to the hood's instrument panel. Unscrew the first cable tie from holding to the steering column bracket with the tie wrap. On the side of the passenger compartment, slip the cable grommet out of the firewall and pass the cable through it. For the installation, feed the cable through the grommet in the firewall and make the cable seated well before closing the hood, move the control cable to check if the latch control function correctly.
