Mercury Mariner Idle Control Valve

Universal air flow regulation in Mercury Mariner vehicles happens through the Idle Control Valve to achieve continuous engine idling smoothness. The idle air control (IAC) actuator functions as an essential Mercury Idle Control Valve which team up with the ECU to regulate engine idling speed by using two different methods: throttle bypass and throttle butterfly valve adjustment. A linear servo motor containing a DC motor along with lead screw and digital optical encoder serves the control Mariner Idle Control Valve to manage airflow while sustaining steady idle conditions and defensive against power losses during load modifications. The durability of IAC actuators is strong but they may experience problems when dirt or dust enters them which causes unexpected control of idle speed. Regular cleaning during maintenance procedures will fix these problems while failures of the servomotor mean replacement is needed. When the Mercury Mariner Idle Control Valve shows air leaks the result is increased idle RPMs so it becomes essential to maintain it properly until its complete lifespan ends.

Mercury Mariner Idle Control Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the idle air control valve on Mercury Mariner?
    A:
This procedure is for the 2008 and earlier models as the later models are equipped with an electronically controlled throttle body thus no idle control valve. For four-cylinder models, start from the removal of the cable from the battery's negative terminal; alternatively, lift the front of the car and put it on jackstands. Remove the intake manifold: Idle Control Valve is mounted at the underside of the intake manifold locate its electrical connector and remove it and also the two Idle Control Valve mounting bolts that helps to pull the Idle Control Valve out of the intake manifold. Subsequently, the old gasket must be taken out and replaced with the new gasket and tighten the bolt to the recommended torque and reconnect the electrical connector. Lower the car and connect the battery terminal back again. After this, the Powertrain Control Module requires an opportunity to learn new idle as well as fuel trim, for top performance. To V6 models first remove the battery cable then look for the Idle Control Valve located on top of the intake manifold around the throttle body. As seen disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the mounting bolts in order to pull off the Idle Control Valve. Remove the old gasket, replace it with a new one, for it to fit properly the Idle Control Valve is then refined and the bolts tightened to the right torque. Last but not the least, join the battery cable and let the Powertrain Control Module learn the correct idle and fuel trim for the best performance.
